Pre-Season Comments

Steve Goodman, Vice President Marketing at Control Microsystems, the Sponsor of the # 01 SCADAPack Chevy Cobalt SS
“In our 9th year sponsoring Georgian Bay Motorsports, Control Microsystems is once again proud to be a part of the team.  With a highly competitive series like the 2007 KONI Challenge at hand, success will only come from a team focused on results. And just like Control Microsystems itself, we know that GBMS will put everything they’ve got into the challenges ahead.”

Dwight Woodbridge, GM Program Manager for the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series
“The Daytona International Speedway race in January kicks off our 2007 season in a big way. Grand-Am as sanctioning body has a difficult challenge maintaining parity between car manufacturers. We hope for a slight adjustment in our favour early this season !

Our objective is to demonstrate the Chevy Cobalt SS as a highly competitive race car and a great value. The performance vs. cost ratio is high: we are working hard for the Cobalt SS to be the race car of choice in the KONI Challenge ST Class.”

GBMS Team Owner Mike Kuznicki
“We had a very strong start to the 2006 season and we hope to repeat those great results this season.  The weight penalty incurred from Grand-Am last season has been reduced somewhat however we still enter this season with a distinct disadvantage. We trust Grand-Am will continue to work towards achieving parity between the different makes of cars. We appreciate that it’s a tough job.

The GBMS Race Team is working hard to do well in all of the inter-related competitions in Grand-Am KONI Challenge – Manufacturers, Team, Drivers, GM Cobalt, KONI Shock Absorber. We do this by ‘sweating the details’ !”

Brake Control System is the same on the # 01 SCADAPack Chevy Cobalt SS as on the production Cobalt SS Supercharged. Driver commanded pressure has flow controlled through the use of current controlled orificing of a linear solenoid valve.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses a P12 processor to provide a pulse width modulated signal to each fuel injector with timing and duration determined by a series of look up tables. Ignition timing is determined by a similar set of look up tables that utilize inputs from the electronically controlled throttle pedal, inlet air temperature, and mass air flow sensor. Corrections to these calculated values are made for coolant temperature, engine oil temperature, and barometric pressure. Boost control is also a pulse width modulated system that detects throttle position and positioning of the cam sensor to determine the amount of boost commanded from the boost controller.
